Douglas CDMO was founded with pioneering ambition and has since expanded to a global reach.
Nestled near the rolling hills of the Waitakere Ranges in West Auckland, New Zealand, Douglas Pharmaceuticals was established by founder Sir Graham Douglas in 1967.
Originally a pharmacist, he decided to build a pharmaceutical company of his own and went on to dominate the New Zealand market before expanding internationally in the early 1990s.
The first product developed was a children’s cough medicine that “either tasted so bad, or worked so well that children never needed a second dose.” Today, Douglas specializes in producing prescription treatments across various medical classifications, including oncology, dermatology, and the central nervous system.
In 1998, Sir Graham was appointed a Member of the New Zealand Order of Merit for his work in the pharmaceutical industry. In 2010, he was knighted for his philanthropic efforts and contributions to athletics, and in 2012, he was inducted into the New Zealand Business Hall of Fame for his remarkable achievements in the business world.
Douglas continues to be a privately owned entity, driven by its pioneering beginnings and the expertise of its world-class researchers, developers, technicians, and project managers. Under the leadership of Sir Graham’s son, Jeff Douglas, the company maintains its commitment to excellence and innovation.
